Water is one of the most important resources for the survival and maintenance of all life on earth. With the increase of the human population, a greater consumption demand has been occurring in the last decades and, as a consequence, the natural resources, especially the aquatic ecosystem, are exhaustively exploited to supply the various production activities, such as industry, agriculture and domestic activities. Due to the various uses and the possibility of pollution of the aquatic environment, various methods are created for greater control of water quality and protection of the aquatic community and humans. The aim of this research was to diagnose and evaluate the water quality of the Matriz Stream, located in Cachoeira Alta-GO. The methodological procedures used followed the proposals of CONAMA Resolution N. 357, of 2005, for the framing of the water body and the water quality index - IQA/CETESB. Nine parameters were evaluated: hydrogen potential (pH), dissolved oxygen (OD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total phosphorus (Pt), total nitrogen (Nt), thermotolerant coliforms (CT), turbidity (Turb), total residues. (RT) and temperature (T). According to the evaluated data, it can be concluded that the waters of the Matrix Stream can be classified as class 3 of the current Resolution, due to the Pt and BOD parameter, therefore, the waters may be destined for human consumption after treatment. conventional or advanced. Already by IQA-CETESB, the Stream Matrix has a good quality water, being viable for human consumption, after conventional treatment.
