Abstract:
The textbook has been an almost unanimously used instrument, but isn't always used judiciously in the teaching-learning process. It's important to reflect on environmental education at a time when man disrespects the environment, and environmental education needs to be understood as part of the whole in citizen education and cannot be worked on in isolation. The present work analyzed the environmental issues in the textbooks adopted in the municipal and state networks of Jataí-GO city. The methodological approach consisted of analyzing the environmental contents in the textbooks and the teaching procedures used; Thus, the following environmental contents were focused: the concept of Environmental Education; climate change, air and water pollution and deforestation. Questionnaires were applied to the area coordinators, teachers and students, with the intention of verifying the practices worked in the classroom and the practices suggested in the didactic material. Regarding environmental issues, it was found that the books presented, correctly, the subjects: climate change, air and water pollution, deforestation, among others, with diversified content through analysis of texts, illustrations, paintings, graphics, maps, photographs, among others, provoking students interest and curiosities to know more. Thus, the books support the teacher to work their classes interactively with the students, aiming at their learning, leading them to a critical view on the environmental issue. As for teachers, they are integrated with environmental issues not only because of their theoretical knowledge, but also because of classroom practice regarding the use of methodologies, such as reading and text use, and the development of projects in schools within the Geography subject and in conjunction with the other areas of knowledge.
