Abstract:
The type of land use and occupation of watersheds without proper supervision or planning, becomes one of the major responsible for degradation of water bodies. The water quality of the Ribeirão Paraíso stream watershed, located in Jataí/GO municipality, was evaluated from the Water Quality Index (IQA), adapted by the São Paulo State Basic Sanitation Technology Center (CETESB) for conditions Tropical The research consisted in measuring the water quality index in eleven sampling points, in four distinct periods. The parameters evaluated were: dissolved oxygen (DO), thermotolerant coliforms (TC), hydrogen potential (pH), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), nitrogen (N), total phosphorus (PT), temperature (T), turbidity (TURB ) and total waste (RT). The results were compared with CONAMA Resolution N. 357/2005, which classifies the water body into 5 classes of freshwater for lotic environments, and applied the water quality index (IQA), which classifies the water body at 5. value ranges (from zero to 100) and different colors. According to the data evaluated, the Ribeirão Paraíso water quality can be considered good and can be destined for public supply, provided that adequate treatment is provided. According to the CONAMA classification n. 357 (2005), the water body falls between freshwater classes 1 and 2 in lotic environments. By separately analyzing each parameter, the values found in some of the analyzes of thermotolerant coliforms, pH, total phosphorus and BOD were not in compliance with the current Resolution class 1, resulting in water contamination. Thus, it's concluded that actions are necessary to enable better management and use in the occupation of land and waters of this basin, enabling the integrity of the characteristics of the creek, as well as the prevention of further changes and degradation in the face of increased anthropic activities found in the region river basin concerned.
