Abstract:
Collective organizations should seek to meet the social and economic demands of their communities. However, in order to achieve the expected result, it's necessary to establish a relationship of trust and mutual solidarity. The practices of associativism and cooperativism have been presented as an important instrument for family farming. Rural collective organizations have contributed to family farmers continuing their agricultural activities, which enables them to access public policies, increase productivity and participate competitively in the marketing of their products. The aim of this research was to understand how cooperatives and associations contribute to the economic activities (planting, harvesting, input acquisition and marketing) of family farmers in Rio Verde and Jataí-GO municipalities located in Goiás southwest. In this research we used a methodology based on the bibliographic survey looking for a theoretical reference about the associativism and cooperativism and their contributions to family farmers. The primary source data were collected through interviews with farmers and representatives of the collective organizations. Secondary source data were collected from the IBGE archives. In the theoretical framework we seek to understand how rural territorial development and the state have contributed to the activities of family farmers, we seek to understand the characteristics of cooperativism and associativism and how these collective organizations promote rural territorial development, investigating the main advantages, difficulties and blockages. collective organizations, especially family farmers. We describe the data collected to understand the reality of cooperativism and associativism for Goiás Southwest, highlighting Rio Verde and Jataí - GO municipalities. With the development of the research we found that associations and cooperatives became fundamental for the strengthening of small farmers; These are possibilities seen by the community in order to minimize their difficulties, aiming to increase the bargaining power of small farmers in the market and thus strengthen them economically.
