ABSTRACT:

Urban segregation linked to social inequalities is one of the biggest problems facing today's capitalist society. In Iporá-GO city, there's a social segregation in the urban housing complex, whereby neighborhoods are neglected by city management when it comes to infrastructure, education, health, culture, public policies, among other social factors. The Serrinha Sector was the neighborhood selected for an in-depth study, aiming to search for elements that evidence the urban segregation in Iporá-GO city. The problem involved in the research was to understand the reasons that lead to socio-spatial segregation in the Serrinha Sector, the profile of the resident of the sector and what political actions can be made to make the population feel welcomed by the public policies of Iporá-GO. The choice of this sector is justified due to the distance it presents from the center of Iporá-GO and the precariousness of most of the houses that make up the sector. Within the theory that discusses urban segregation, it's understood that the state has an important role in socio-spatial segregation, because it exercises not only power, but is an instrument of domination. In addition to the state and the public force, the capitalist system itself maintains and contributes to the segregation of subjects in space. Two reasons that lead to segregation stand out: the role of politics and the segregating capitalist system. The Serrinha Sector was a housing development created by the management of Iporá-GO in the 1980s, contributing to the segregation of residents of this sector, especially by the distance in which it was built in relation to the urban layout of the time. The methodological procedures of this work aims to present the spatial formation of the city, its location and its urban expansion over time. Through images and data from the city hall, the Serrinha Sector segregation stands out, demonstrating the social inequalities present in the urban space, applying the theory to the practice combined with the reality of Iporá-GO. Finally, we discuss the theories already discussed about socio-spatial segregation in order to describe the population of the Serrinha Sector through a questionnaire that is attentive to the residents' perception of public policies and what the residents of this place have been aware of segregation and urban social inequalities. In the opportunity, the population of the neighborhood was heard about what improvements they expect from the city management to benefit the living of the residents in their space. After establishing the problems of the Sector, the final goal of the work was to propose new management parameters, so that the research collaborates with the urban development of the Sector.
