ABSTRACT:

Traffic accidents victim several people each day. These are considered an expression of violence that is often overlooked and not recognized as such. This conflict is present in the urban space today and generates various physical, psychological and economic disorders in the life of the members of this space. Among these accidents, motorcyclists fall into the category of greatest vulnerability. Thus, with the general objective of analyzing the data on traffic accidents, especially those involving motorcyclists, in the city of Jataí (GO), from 2013 to 2015, we analyzed the data present in the police reports completed by the Military Police, Data were collected from the Federal Highway Police, the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System and the Center for Epidemiological and Environmental Health Surveillance. The data were tabulated and, after treatment, studied from a qualitative and quantitative perspective through the analysis of the statements of those involved accidents and the verification of different variables related to occurrences. From these data, graphs, tables and maps containing the spatialization of accidents by road and by intersections of occurrence were generated. During the study period, we had a total of 2,302 accidents, of which 2,215 occurred in the urban perimeter. Most accidents involve motor vehicles (59%) followed by motorcycles (33.01%). About 70% of the accidents presented male gender as the main driver and the age group of prevalence from 30 to 49 years old (51%). Through the analysis of the testimonials of the drivers involved, we found that the lack of attention and the disrespect to the signs are the probable causes of the accidents in the period in question. With the spatialization of accidents involving motorcyclists in this period, we found that the roads that had the most occurrence of these events were Avenida Goiás Avenue and BR 158 with 30 accidents each, followed by Veriano de Oliveira Lima Venue with 15, Castelo Branco Avenue with 14 and Perimetral and Marechal Rondon Avenues, both with 11 events. Considering the observed aspects, we have that elements present in the urban space were more relevant to the occurrence of accidents, rather than variables such as road conditions and time and day of the week in the analyzed period. When checking the testimonies of those involved in the accidents, we found, during the analyzed period, the human factor presented itself as the main element for the occurrence of accidents, given that the need to reach the destination faster and the recklessness it caused that the driver did not respect the signs, interfered with the displacement of other users, thus generating accidents.
